John Robert Slauter Jr

January 20, 1951 ~ July 17, 2020

John R. Slauter, Jr. of Largo, FL, formally of Lawrence, MA, peacefully passed away on July 17, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Lawrence, MA on January 20, 1951; son of the late John R. Slauter, Sr. and the late Theresa (Dube) Desell. After graduating from Central Catholic High School in 1968, John proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy, on the USS Stickell. He also attended Northeast Technical School for Electronics.
John retired from No. Andover Department of Public Works in 2016 as a truck driver. He was also employed for many years as a laser technician at ECRM in Tewksbury, MA; a delivery driver at OUI in Lawrence; and various other truck driver positions over forty years.
John met his soulmate, Sharon “Cheri” O’Neil while stationed in Norfolk, Virginia in 1971. It was a short courtship and a 48-year long, loving marriage. Together they had three children, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandsons. He always felt his family was his greatest accomplishment; and his children always felt they were lucky to have a father who guided and loved them unconditionally.
He was a member of the American Legion, and a charter member of the Rocky Club of Lawrence, MA. John was also active for many years in the Prospect Hill Little League Association, as Vice President, coach and umpire for baseball and softball. He was a nationally certified umpire and member of the Merrimack Valley Umpire Association.
John was always active in sports, and a life-long New England sports fan. He golfed with the Parker Tavern Golf League; played darts in the Yankee and Mill City Leagues; and played softball in the Lawrence Men’s League. He also coached his son’s baseball teams. He was an avid 45’s card player and enjoyed cribbage with his mother. John always created happy memories with his family, his sense of humor and teasing had family and friends always laughing, and he left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
In addition to his wife Cheri, he is survived by two sons and a daughter and their families: John C. & Christine Slauter of Lawrence, MA, and their sons Andrew & his fiancé Allison; Timothy J. & Holly, and their sons Timothy R. and Brayden. Ryan M. & Lindsey Slauter of Manchester, NH, and their sons Ryan P., Tyler and Wesley. Robyn Sullivan & Buck Benjamin of Hooksett, NH, and her daughters Devynne, Ashlynne and Kylee.
