Obituary of Robert Campbell Jr

Robert Campbell Jr, age 80, of St Petersburg, passed away on March 19th, 2024. He was born to Robert Campbell and Francis Wilkinson in Cleveland, Ohio. Bob met the love of his life, Laura Van Shimmon, in Cleveland, Ohio after he was released from the Navy. They married on August 8th, 1964 in Dunedin, FL.

In his early years, Bob was a Zoo Director at the Aquatarium in St. Pete Beach. He then transitioned into a role as an insurance adjuster, before becoming the Supervisor for Town Shores for 20 years prior to retirement. He enjoyed bass fishing and riding his John Deere tractor. Bob was a longtime member of the VFW and was also a member of the Elks Club for almost 50 years. Bob's favorite activity was spending time with his grandchildren. He would fish and fly kites with them, and he cherished his time with them. 

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter Jennifer Marie Campbell. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Laura Campbell of St. Petersburg; son Robert Duane Campbell of Pennsylvania; daughter Tammy Campbell-McNelis and her husband Michael McNelis of St Petersburg; grandsons Dr. Austin Plummer of St Petersburg and Christopher Plummer of St Petersburg, and great-grandson Liam Plummer.

The family invites you to join them for his service at Bay Pines National Cemetery with Navy Military Honors on Wednesday, March 27th at 3:00pm. There will be a Celebration of Life immediately following the service at the Elks Lodge 1224, 2675 66th Street North, St Petersburg, FL 33710.
